Dork Art: First Look at Mondo's Buck Banzai Poster
Thanks to a Twitter spy (@BTSjunkie) we have our first glimpse of Mondo's Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension poster and I have been in a perpetual state of dorkgasm since putting eyes upon it. Obviously, I'm an absolute fanatic when it comes to these Mondo posters so it's real easy for me to freak out over each and every print. But Buck Banzai? That's a Top Ten film for me. And I MUST have this poster. This photo was taken from the lobby of the Alamo Drafthouse which, right now, is screening the movie on the big screen. I was actually lucky enough to catch Buck at the AFI Silver, so I'm not too jealous about missing the screening, but I need to get my grubby hands on that print. Bad. When I get a crisper image and more information I will share it with you good folks.

Dork Art: They Live
From Film School Rejects--Here it is! Shepard Fairey's They Live poster for Mondo Tees. Goes for the iconic rather than the montage explosion I was sorta expecting. But not everything can mimic the Tyler Stout aesthetic...Still, one day I'm going to get a great Keith David poster! I just have to have faith.
They Live goes on sale at a random time on Mondo's site. Good luck to all you desperate bidders.

John Carpenter Speaks To The Alamo Drafthouse About They Live
The Alamo Drafthouse has been getting a lot of buzz lately thanks to their Don't Talk & Don't Text video's that have been making the mainstream media rounds (and yes, I agree with Anderson Cooper that owner Tim League deserves the Noble Prize, no hyperbole here). But the real reason The Alamo is Awesome is because of stuff like the below video. Tonight, The Alamo has a They Live screening and before the show director John Carpenter will address the audience:
So at the end of the video Carpenter holds up a (censored) Shepard Fairey poster that will be released at a random time tomorrow via Mondo Tees. Naturally, I'll be hard at work when this goes on sale but I'm gonna do my best to snag it via my iphone. Good luck to me and to you. Below is a preview image of Fairey's work found on OMG Posters!
I've been to The Alamo once. Saw Spider-Man 3 there and even though I hated, hated, hated that bloody movie I had a great time at America's Greatest Movie Theater. It truly lived up to that title and I hope to one day get my butt back to Texas for any number of their fests.

Dork Art: The Texas Monthly Rolling Roadshow!
It's that time of year again. The time when Austin's Alamo Drafthouse celebrates cinematic geography with their Rolling Roadshow and just like every other year, I get to watch from the sidelines of Facebook and twitter as lots of lucky people get to sit in cinema's landscape and absorb the classics. This year doesn't stretch the nation like usual, but celebrates celluloid Texas with Blood Simple, Bonnie & Clyde, Giant, Hud, The Last Picture Show, No Country For Old Men, Red River, Tender Mercies, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and The Searchers. This year, Mondo has brought on minimalist artist Jason Munn to do poster duties and even though I don't like them as much as last year's Olly Moss batch they're still pretty nifty.
