Emergency services attend the scene of a train accident near Rueningen January 20, 2010. A regional train collided with a truck at a railroad crossing south of Braunschweig in the German state of Lower Saxony on Wednesday morning a Deutsche Bahn spokesperson said.

The first car of the train derailed during the collision, police spokesman Joachim Grande said.

Five of the injured were in serious condition, Grande said.

Recovery efforts were expected to take several hours because a large amount of diesel fuel leaked from the truck in the collision, local media reported.

The cause of the accident remained under investigation.
